Enjoy The Work today announced the recent addition of writing tutoring platform, Prompt, to its portfolio.
Prompt developed a Virtual Writing Center that provides on-demand writing tutoring at scale delivered by a vetted, quality-controlled network of writing coaches. The company launched its proprietary SaaS platform by first addressing the market of college admissions essays, achieving impressive results in just a few years.
Prompt is growing 3x year over year, and the company has established itself as the leader in admissions essay tutoring. Having developed relationships with over 500 independent admissions consultants and 100 high schools, Prompt now provides feedback on over 35,000 essays each year.
Today, tutoring is a $200B global market, of which less than 1% is related to writing. Prompt believes the low market share does not match the importance of writing, nor does it serve to remedy the writing skills gap (75% of high school students score below proficient in writing).
The company believes the writing skills gap persists in part because our education system is unable to provide enough capacity to provide feedback on the content and structure of writing. Creating a scalable process for improving a skill that can only be qualitatively evaluated is no easy feat, but Prompt believes it is honing in on a solution.
While founders Brad Schiller, Jordan Haines, and John Parsons are focusing on college essays now, they expect to broaden their offerings in the coming years. The company plans to grow and deepen its relationships with educational institutions while branching out to provide feedback on a broader range of writing skills and subjects.
Prompt’s mission is to make people better writers. They believe the answer requires striking the right balance between using real, human feedback and leveraging technology to boost efficiency and quality control.
“Brad, Jordan, and John have a clear vision for this company,” says Enjoy The Work partner, Ned Renzi. “They’ve seen promising results serving a small portion of the total addressable market. Watching this team scale things over the next few years will be fun, and I’m honored to be a part of the journey.
